The Long Love
He Wasn't Supposed to Be There
He went to a Big Hit Entertainment audition in Daegu to support a friend. The friend did not pass. Kim Taehyung was the only person to pass the Daegu auditions that day. Every concert, every Grammy stage, every White House podium, every Celine campaign, every Dodger Stadium first pitch — all of it traces back to a phone call to his father and a single word: yes.
"Back then we had such a hard time, didn't we? ,
Looking up at the stars in the sky so far away ,
The you of back then did not believe in the galaxy ,
But I happened to have seen it."
Never Performing Being Himself
The defining characteristic of Kim Taehyung — more than the baritone, more than the face, more than the art — is that he has never adjusted himself to match what the world needed an idol to be. He arrived as Taehyung, and every version of him since has been the same person at different depths.
He spends entire days watching dramas and videos. He binge-watches. He loses track of time. At his level of global fame — 4th most-searched person on earth, beating Cristiano Ronaldo in global popularity polls — describing his ideal day as sitting quietly and watching something beautiful is not casual. It is a statement about what fame does not get to reorganize.
Multi-Talented in the Most Literal Sense. Vocalist. Songwriter. Producer. Actor (Hwarang). Photographer (Vante). Guitarist. Saxophonist. Painter. Visual artist. Composer. He does not announce these things. He simply does them, for the love of doing them, and lets the results speak. Forbes Korea called him an "inventive model who doesn't need to be guided through each tiny movement."
Run BTS — Pure Chaos, Pure Brotherhood. BTS's variety show is where most people first saw Taehyung outside the concert stage. Absurdly competitive, then immediately terrible at whatever he's competing at. Takes games too seriously, then forgets the rules mid-game. A person having the time of his life without once checking whether the camera is watching.
The 4D That Refused the Label. Taehyung was called "4D" — shorthand for someone whose humor and way of seeing the world operates on a frequency others can't follow. He reportedly did not like being called an "alien" — not because he wanted to be normal, but because "alien" implies separation from humanity. He has always been the most deeply human person in any room.
Borahae 💜. At a BTS concert, V told the audience: "Purple is the last color of the rainbow, so it means I will trust and love you for a long time." "Borahae" — invented in a sentence, on a stage, because it felt true — became the color of BTS's permanent relationship with ARMY. Not the first, loudest love. The last, most enduring, unconditional kind.
"Did I lose myself ,
Trying to be loved? ,
I buried my voice ,
So that I could breathe ,
The lake was frozen over ,
Did you hear? The sound of breaking?"
The Body That Almost Broke
Before V was the world's most handsome man — before Celine and Cartier and 61 million Instagram followers — there was a teenager in Seoul, far from home, drilling choreography until his body gave out. 12 to 16-hour practice days, vocal training, schoolwork, performance preparation simultaneously.
V has spoken about moments when he thought an injury might be the only way to get rest. He kept going anyway. He didn't have many friends before high school. His quirky way of seeing the world made him an outsider. What saved him, repeatedly: music. And eventually, ARMY.
"You are me ,
I am you ,
Where I came from, you'll go there too ,
You and I, though far apart ,
We are together even now ,
I'll come to protect you"
"I believe that everything goes back to classic. ,
I want to highlight the vintage atmosphere ,
and stick with natural lighting."
The Name Vante. V combines his stage name with Ante — from his favorite photographer, Croatian-American Ante Badzim, whose intimate black-and-white portraiture directly shaped his visual language. He does not imitate. He inherits and transforms.
Monochrome as Belief. His consistent preference for black-and-white film is not aesthetic affectation. It is conviction: when color is removed, what remains is structure, feeling, and truth. He has said he believes everything returns to classic. Every photograph published under Vante proves this.
Directing Every Layover Video. He insisted on making a music video for every Layover track. He told W Korea: "There's an undeniable thrill in bringing an envisioned aesthetic to life." He ran four rounds of concept photography and controlled every visual frame of the entire EP's visual identity.
Van Gogh and the Painterly Eye. V loves Van Gogh with sincere depth — the post-impressionist's emotional intensity and his biography of creating ferociously beautiful work under profound personal pain both resonate directly. He paints and illustrates independently. He is an artist who happens to be a musician.
"I wanna slow dance in the rain with you ,
Time slows down when I'm with you ,
Nothing else in this world ,
That I wanna do"
Breaking the American Radio Wall. For decades, American radio operated on an implicit language barrier. When "Dynamite" (2020) debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, it broke through a wall that had stood for the entire history of the chart. When "Life Goes On" debuted at No. 1 in Korean, the wall came down permanently. V's baritone and his Korean vocal delivery were central to both achievements.
European Fashion Capitals as New Territory. V's presence at Celine Paris Fashion Week brought a level of Asian male representation to European luxury fashion that the industry had not previously centered. His $12M EMV in a single Paris Fashion Week post demonstrated that Asian male figures could command European luxury audiences at levels previously reserved for Western celebrities.
The Coca-Cola Effect. When Coca-Cola — the most globally recognized brand on earth, built on American pop culture — chose a Korean artist as the face of their international campaign, it formalized what V's cultural presence had been building toward: a global brand authority that transcends national borders, language barriers, and cultural categories entirely.
Sports, Fashion, Diplomacy, Music. Ceremonial first pitch at Dodger Stadium. UN General Assembly podium. White House briefing room. Celine Paris front row with Anna Wintour. Grammy stage. These are not the achievements of a single sector celebrity. This is the trajectory of a genuine cultural institution — one that happens to have started with a saxophone and a borrowed audition.
"Purple is the last color of the rainbow. ,
It means I will trust and love you for a long time. ,
보라해 — I purple you."
"Beyond his looks, Taehyung continues to captivate audiences with his music, acting, and artistic versatility, proving that his charm extends far beyond appearance."
There's an undeniable thrill in bringing an envisioned aesthetic to life. I think it showed myself well. I'm Kim Taehyung and I like these kinds of things.
Beauty fades, but love lasts forever. I hope what people see in me is not only how I look but how I feel, how I create, how I care. That is more lasting than a face.
He is an inventive model who doesn't need to be guided through each tiny movement. He always has fresh and unique ways of moving, posing, and expressing emotion, which makes him photographers' favourite.
Some people climb mountains alone, while some climb with others. We talk and share as we reach the top. I think we are a group willing to withstand all the good and the bad to climb up together.
On V's birthday, it displayed photos of him along with a "Happy Birthday" message while orbiting Earth. The satellite was also programmed to transmit a specific message in Morse code: "Happy Birthday Taehyung," which could be picked up by radio enthusiasts on the ground as it passed over different countries. It was a symbolic way for fans to say that his influence had gone beyond global—it was now "universal".
This event represented the world’s first-ever fan-organized solo celebrity show on the 828-meter skyscraper. Secured by his Chinese fan base, Baidu V Bar, V became the first K-pop soloist to receive this tribute, repeating the feat in 2020 and 2021.
This milestone is extraordinary because Burj Khalifa management typically reserves its facade for royalty and national events. The approval of a private fan-led project was a rare acknowledgement of V's "Idol of Idols" status.
On these nights, the tower glowed in purple with his photos while the Dubai Fountain performed to his solo tracks "Winter Bear" and "Inner Child"—the first time a K-pop solo song was ever featured in the world-renowned water show.
The legacy continued in 2025 when V returned to the tower's facade for an official global showcase, solidifying his transition from a fan-supported star to a permanent international icon. These displays remain the gold standard of tributes, proving that for Kim Taehyung, the sky was never the limit.

The Surest Path Through Extraordinary Pressure
The surest way to remain yourself under extraordinary pressure is to never have started performing yourself in the first place. V broke every rule about what a global icon is supposed to look like. And in doing so demonstrated something more instructive: the spotlight follows the music — not the other way around. Always has. Always will.
"Purple is the last color of the rainbow, so it means I will trust and love you for a long time."
He was a farmer's son from Geochang who walked into an audition he didn't plan to take.
He was a secret member who watched the future being built without him.
He was a trainee who kept going when his body asked him to stop.
He is the man who named a color for the length of his love, who photographs the world in black and white because he believes everything returns to classic, who spends whole days watching videos and doesn't think this makes him less of an idol — because he never started being an icon.
He started being Taehyung.
The world's most charismatic man.
Who didn't worry about the spotlight.
The world came to him.
